My Sanctuary

Posted on Art | No Comments

lb_fw1617_home_02_02_1200x800My bedroom is my sanctuary. A place to rest, a place get away from all of the busyness of life, refresh, and rejuvenate.

It feels relaxing and I can do many things better and ease away any stress.

I like to have my breakfast in my bed when the light or the sunlight is shining from my window.

lb_fw1617_home_1625nv_02_1200x800

I sleep, I read, and I do my work in my bed. I have some books and a letter that I have not yet read, they are hanging on the wall in my sanctuary.

I brought a few things with me to give my room a taste of ‘home’. There are my tools to do my hobbies at the back door.

I’ve been busy getting my hands dirty with these tools and having super much fun in the process.

The New East Indies: November Release

Started at the end of 2015, I did research relating to this collection, when I concluded that there was an ‘imaginative vortex’ in the development of our civilization. I tried to interpret the concept of ‘imaginative vortex’ into 6 points of view, 2 of them are Deformasi and Transgresi.

lb_fw1617_1624rr_08_1200x802

Deformasi – Luna Tote

Deformasi: An attitude towards the interior of self which examined every imperfection and undressed every defect would definitely shock many faces. Through the transparency of this approach, vanity in individualism was deliberately sabotaged to be aware on the importance of taking down ego, destroying old masks, and forming a fresh character. I visualized this deconstructive attitude in several ink splashes.

lb_fw1617_1625nv_05_1200x802

Transgresi – Luna Tote

Transgresi: A defensive mechanism within my interiority which I exhibited with peace and discipline to overcome the old-world dogmatic attacks wishing to crush the new spirit. ‘Transgresi’ focused on the development of physical strength which worked side by side with humans’ spiritual maturity in protecting their privileges and territories. I visualized this attitude with a boundary line marked by an uncontrollable dripping ink.

The Art of Serigraphy

Posted on Art | No Comments

jou_20161011_btspro-244_1200x800

#1. Preparing The Film
– Every color is a separate film.
– An overlay of 2 or more colors might produce another extra color to the palette.

jou_20161011_btspro-168_1200x800

#2. Washing The Screens
– The screens are washed using an emulsion cleaner* and pressured washer hose.
* We can use distilled vinegar or magic eraser for stubborn stains.

jou_20161011_btspro-146_800x1200

#3. Preparing The Screen
– The screen is covered by photo-sensitive emulsion
– Sandwich the film with a glass over emulsion covered screen. Then expose the screen using natural sunlight or UV light source.

jou_20161011_btspro-124_800x1200

#4. Quality Control of Screens
– Hold the dry screen against the light to cheek if there are any holes. Use the screen fillers to patch these holes up.

jou_20161011_btspro-354_1200x800

#5. Preparing Color Draw-Downs
– We typically select 12 color patches for each collection. It’s necessary to make draw-downs of these colors on the actual canvas.
– We use Pantone colors for the home to set the formula standards for mixing.

jou_20161011_btspro-261_1200x800

#6. We Use Pantone Color Systems
– This Pantone Systems offer color mixing formulation calculator
– We use water based pigments and binders, which allow transparency between the layers of colors.

jou_20161011_btspro-503_1200x800

#7. Preparing The Canvas
– We use non-bleached raw cotton canvas, so the speckles seen throughout the surface of the materials are not dust particles. They are cotton seeds.
– Each canvas is trimmed and cleaned before serigraphy process is applied.

jou_20161011_btspro-334_1200x800

#8. Serigraphy Table
– It’s important that the work area and the serigraphy table are cleaned. Dust particles, small threads, or excess table glue can disrupt work method, as we aim to achieve maximum results.

jou_20161011_btspro-307_1200x800

#9. Water Based Pigments
– We use certified environmental-friendly inks and binders the best quality components available for this industry.

jou_20161011_btspro-282_1200x800

#10. Applying Serigraphy
– Serigraphy = silkscreen
– All process are drawn manually. It is normal to achieve unevenness of color throughout the whole collection.
– Each serigraphy pull produces a unique hand-made impression.

jou_20161011_btspro-170_800x1200

#11. Drying in Between Colors
– Every color application is a complete meticulous process. Every screened canvas requires a thorough drying process before the application of the next color.

jou_20161011_btspro-387_1200x800

#12. Protective Coating
– We use Poly Urethane protective coating on the overall final printed canvas. This coating gives water resistant property to the material, making it more durable.

jou_20161011_btspro-434_1200x800

#13. Heat Pressing
– We heat press each printed materials, for caring process.

jou_20161011_btspro-499_1200x800

#14. Final Printed Serigraphy
– After the caring process, all of the printed canvas sheets are trimmed along the fraying edges and prepared for the next process: cutting pattern.

On the outside of the boutique Melissa Sunjaya wrote, “Allow me to share a story about a buoy that saved me from drowning. At times when this soul was on the verge of drowning. I deliberately immersed myself in colorful emotions and surreal thinking, such that I could maintain the courage to envision what was broken within my world and transform every one of my mistakes into my strength.”

jou_20160831_kt-26_1200x800

Melissa explained that her inspiration behind the story of the collection Fall/Winter 16/17 came from an astrophysicist, Jocelyn Bell Burnell, who discover ‘pulsar’ frequency in 1967.

jou_20160831_kt-121_1200x800

Art movie and art photography were made in the building was built in 1710 as the city hall of Batavia.

jou_20160831_kt-183_1200x800

Melissa collaborates with Davit Fitrik, a choreographer and a professional dancer to brought together ‘Tari Pulsar’ in this collection.

jou_20160831_kt-152_1200x800

Due to the fact that this field was new to Melissa, she started to learning contemporary dance regularly at the beginning of 2016.

jou_20160831_kt-134_1200x800

Once the artist has found inspiration, as a team, we continue to develop the concept to production. How will they look like? What is the story behind their character? How will she interact with other characters? What acts will she perform? We discuss it all during brainstorming sessions.

jou_20160831_kt-17_1200x800

A costume is a crucial part of the character’s visual look and makes a major difference on the impression she will give.

jou_20160831_kt-42_1200x800

Makeup complements one character’s and completes the visual look. Specific character traits can be expressed through makeup too.

jou_20160831_kt-186_1200x800

Our team understands what Melissa needs to make this process easy and runs smoothly. All things are well prepared, it is not from professionals but our team can make the necessary things become possible and be the perfect result.

A gasp from the crowd, energy use, making us not feel tired and proud of the results achieved.
